Rickwood Field

What is the date for the 2009 Rickwood Classic?
Thanks Glen, for your interest in the ball park and the 2009 Rickwood Classic. We do not yet have a confirmed date, as this is based on the Barons schedule, plus approval from their opponent, the Southern League, and the parent-clubs’ farm club directors. However, we anticipate it being held the last Wednesday in May. The 2009 Classic date will be announced upon confirmation from the various parties. Thanks again.
We have just completed a showcase at Rickwood Field. We were from Macon, Georgia and I did not realize the aweinspiring history of Rickwood Field. You have a gem. My son plays in Thomaston, Georgia for the Upson Lee Knights and we have the priviledge of playing high school ball at Historic Silvertown Ballpark. Our field was built in 1936 and was one of the thousands of textile fields from that era however ours is still standing and in great shape because of a 1995 County SPLOST that renovated the place. Rickwood Field was really awesome and my son had a ball.
Looking forward to being at the 2010 classic on June 2.
It was a wonderful day at Rickwood Field this first day of June 2011. I was in baseball heaven all day at the field. The classic is a tremdenous and astomishing event for a baseball fan to experience.
I look forward to many more Rickwood Clasics and to a day of baseball excellence. Cooperstown take note of this event–the mudville nine and “Casey at Bat” would be proud today at Rickwood….

Every lifetime fan should tour Rickwood Field which opened in 1910.
Dizzy Dean, pitching for the Texas League champs, lost 1-0 to the Barons 80-something years ago in the Dixie Series, the season ending championship between the Texas League champs and the Southern Association champs. You can walk out and see the original very distant outfield wall which was 405 feet down the foul lines and 478 feet in the power allies. And you can just sit in the Rickwood seats and feel a hundred years of baseball history around you; I experienced this last Saturday, March 3, 2012. David Brewer and his staff and many volunteers do a great job of keeping Rickwood buzzing, including many college, high school, and rec league games. You will feel richer for going.

I was actually an extra (baseball player) in the movie that was filmed at Rickwood in 1994. Cobb, starring Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Wuhl, only made it to selected theaters but it’s presence has been on video and cable movie channels. Roger Clemens actually played a bit role in the movie. The movie company actually made a lot of improvements to the stadium which has only enhanced the ambience of the Rickwood Classic each year. If there are any true baseball fans, history fans, etc. I would recommend attending the Rickwood Classic at least once. My friends and I tried to make it a yearly tradition. See you at the ballpark!
