Baseball in World War Two Website

Gary Bedingfield, a baseball enthusiast from Great Britain, shares this information.  Gary launched his Baseball in Wartime website in 2000, in order to “collate and share the many fascinating aspects of baseball in the military during World War II.”  His research and enthusiasm has resulted in a fascinating website, plus a quarterly electronic newsletter.

Baseball of course continued at Rickwood during WWII.  File below is a scanned copy of the  Birmingham News coverage of Opening Day at Rickwood, April 24, 1943.  Photocopies of the original newspaper edition were provided by Jeannette Murray, whose father, Tom Murray, was a member of the Barons’ pitching staff, 1943-45.
