Glynn West, Former Birmingham A’s GM, Dies at 75

The Friends of Rickwood are saddened by the death of Glynn West, former Birmingham General Manager and long-time Rickwood family member.  West, who died Monday at age 75, served as GM for the Birmingham A’s, under the team ownership of Charlie Finley, and is credited with helping to integrate both Birmingham baseball and Rickwood Field.  Despite his leaving baseball in the 1970’s, Glynn remained proud of his Rickwood connection, and frequently visited his old stomping grounds, including most recently, having thrown a ceremonial opening pitch at the 2007 Rickwood Classic.
