Greetings, and welcome to the new Rickwood Field website!
It is with great pleasure and much anticipation that we unveil the new on-line home of Rickwood Field, America’s oldest baseball park. It is our hope that you find the new site to be not only information-rich, but also enjoyable and easy to navigate. And in the spirit of giving credit where credit is due, the Friends of Rickwood gratefully acknowledge Scout Branding for its role in designing and implementing the new Rickwood site. With the new site still a work-in-progress, we are, of course, eager to have your feedback, so please share your observations, comments, suggestions, and criticisms. Moreover, we are also always interested in receiving any Rickwood memories or stories that you may like to share.
The unveiling of this new site is the latest achievement in another successful year of activities and events at the old ball park on Birmingham’s west side. We are very pleased to have the continuation of play by the Birmingham City Schools baseball program, as well as the local men’s amateur baseball commmunity. 2007 has also been a banner year for youth travel ball tournaments and showcase events, including our hosting of the Ringor National Showcase. The 13th annual Rickwood Classic was also a huge success and continues to generate both significnat revenue and invaluable exposure for the park.
2007 has indeed been a banner Rickwood year in terms of national level media coverage, including among others, ESPN’s “101 things all sports fans must experience before they die” listing:
as well as inclusion in the current editon of Spirit Magazine, Southwest airline’s in-flight publication:
Please visit the new site frequently, as we will be updating our calender of events, posting event reviews, and talking Rickwood history. We look forward to having you along for the ride.
